GARBAGE COLLECTION

Garbage are collected each Monday throughout the year.

Any request for information should be directed to our Public Works Department at (514) 630-1230.

The Public Works Department would like to remind residents that the City Garbage By-law states that refuse must not be put out for collection earlier than 6:00 a.m. the morning of the collection day if the garbage is placed in plastic bags or cardboard containers. If it is in rigid plastic or metal containers with the proper covers; then these containers can be placed at the curb for collection after 9:00 p.m. the night prior to collection day.

Due to the renewal of the contract for domestic garbage, you may now put out for the collection, large items such as sofas, hot water tanks or other large items. These will be collected in the regular garbage collection on Monday.

Attention ! Construction materials in large quantities will not be accepted in the regular collection. In this case, a special pick up is offered.

However, you are reminded that you can get rid of these items (sofas, hot water tanks, etc.) and materials (construction, renovation, demolition), free of charge, at the Ecocentre collections days.

SPECIAL PICK-UPS

For a fee, the Publics Works Department offers a special pick-up service for your construction materials (wood, brick, drywall, etc.), excavation materials (earth, sand, stone, rocks, asphalt and cement) and residential renovations (with the exception of materials originating from multifamily dwellings). Simply call the Public Works Department for a free estimate at (514) 630-1230 between 8H30 an 16H30 from Monday to Friday.

Note : Tires and household hazardous waste will not be accepted.

PUBLIC WORKS: FREE REMOVAL OF BRANCHES

The City would like to remind you that residents are able to get rid of branches, free of charge, through the new programmes that are offered: through the compostable waste collection (for the 1100 participants with the green 240 litre rolling bins) and through the green waste collection (residents without the green 240 litre rolling bin). These services are provided by the company Rebuts Solides Canadiens Inc.

IMPORTANT: For these new collections, branches exceeding 1 metre in length or 5 centimetres in diameter will not be picked up. Also, branches that are not placed in a container must be tied in bundles (with string or cord only).

For more information about the instructions and schedules of these collections, please consult the appropriate Guide that you have received in the mail or visit the home page of the City's website at www.ville.pointe-claire.qc.ca.

Otherwise, this service is performed by employees of the City of Pointe-Claire, free of charge, from the beginning of April until October 31st. Residents wishing to make use of the service are asked to call the Public Works Department at 514-630-1230, giving their names and addresses. The branches are usually collected within a delay of 30 days.

IMPORTANT: Branches should be deposite in bundles and must not exceed 48 inches (120 cm.) in length and not bigger than 2 ½ inches (6.25 cm) in diameter. Hedge remnants and small trees can be collected, provided the roots have been removed.

Residents are requested not to include items such as iron bars, wire, etc., in the branch piles. If these objects are not detected, they can cause serious injury to the employees operating the machine, and major damage to the equipment.

To qualify for this service, the branches must be placed in an orderly pile beside the street. (Extremity that has been cut pointing toward the street)

Residents wishing to obtain chips produced from the branch collection may come to the parking lot of the Public Works Department located at 50 Terra Cotta avenue. The chips are available from April 15 until October 31 at all times, without any charge.

 OPERATION - Branch clearing

In order to have our public streets clear and more secure, the City will be clearing branches as we do every fall.

This annual operation consists of trimming all the obstructive branches that could cause poor visibility to the safety and the security of pedestrians and cyclists on the road and to help the flow of motor vehicles. The operation will also help the flow of large vehicles such as buses and delivery trucks and for snow removal. Most importantly it will also help the passage of emergency vehicles such as the fire trucks, rescue vehicles and ambulances.

The City will focus on all vegetation that interferes with the public roads, the municipal sidewalks, fire hydrants, signalization lights and road signs.

We are asking the citizens to cut and make all the necessary trimming to their own vegetation, hedges and trees on their property in order to maintain the public roads free and secure at all times, particularly in the fall before the snow falls and freezing rain.

We encourage you to have the work performed by competent people in accordance with the norms set out by the Bureau de normalisation du Québec (BNQ), according to the document < Entretien arboricole et horticulture> number NQ 0605-200, which is free and available at www.bnq.qc.ca.

We would also like to point out that all the trees which could become a nuisance to the secure operation of Hydro-Québec and to the distribution of electricity, should be submitted to a professional in arboriculture by Hydro-Québec. All trimming requests that are interfering with the electrical network of Hydro-Québec, should be addressed to their Customer Service at (514) 385-7275.

During the course of this program, we invite you to communicate with the Public Works Department at (514) 630-1230 to report any particular situation or to advise us of any inconvenience generated by our program.

The City is thanking you for your collaboration.

NOTICE Water Distribution Network

The Public Works Department will be flushing the water distribution network on the Pointe-Claire territory from April 12 to July 20th, during the night, from 10:00 p.m. to 7:00 a.m.

This procedure will not interrupt water service to your residence, but may result in colored water. In spite of any coloration, the water is free of bacteria and safe for consumption.

However, residents are advised to visually check for coloration, and if any is present, to open a faucet and allow the water to run until it becomes clear. This applies ESPECIALLY in cases of laundry, as the suspended material causing the coloration can permanently stain clothing, diapers, etc.

Thank you for your cooperation.
