Role of the inspectors

Publis SecurityInspectors of the Public Security division take an oath by which they swear to see to the enforcement of the law.  During their patrol, or on complaints, they must apply some twenty laws or municipal By-Laws.  The public security inspectors will never replace Montreal police officers but their desire is to ensure the safety and protect the quality of life of all citizens of the City of Pointe-Claire.

In collaboration with the SPCA, the inspectors deal with animal control on the territory of Pointe-Claire.  They are formed to assist you or to give you advice when wildlife causes damage to your property.  Moreover, the inspectors are in charge of retrieving abandoned or lost dogs.  The owners are traced thanks to the licence that dogs must wear at all times.  These licences are on sale throughout the year at City Hall and at the Public Security station.

During their patrol, the inspectors are your eyes and your ears.  They watch your neighbourhood and report all suspicious activities or criminal acts which could occur during your absence or when you are unable to do so.  Moreover, they keep an eye on the road conditions and make sure to report any anomaly to the appropriate municipal department so that the situation can be rectified as soon as possible.  During the night shift, the inspectors are required to visit some twenty different sites in order to ensure their presence on the entire Pointe-Claire territory and be at your service at all times.

The public security inspectors are always at your service.  They patrol in emergency vehicles so that they can move quickly when the situation requires it.  They can intervene in case of a road accident to control the traffic,  to assist the Montreal Fire Department and to seal off a safety perimeter.  The public security division also assists all other municipal departments that might require its assistance for various reasons (ex : escort during snow clearance, response to alarms in municipal buildings, monitoring of the tunnels and train stations, etc…).  Our inspectors also assist the police force and will take part in searches for missing persons, crowd control during festivities or special events and for any other related tasks. Above all, the public security division is there to assist the citizen.  The patrollers can therefore help you when your vehicle has stalled on a public road,  watch your home when you are on vacation or give you advice to better protect your family.  The inspectors are also a significant link in the application of emergency measures during natural disasters or major power failures.
