Particular surveillance
Ask a trusted neighbour to watch over your house and call the police should he/she notice anything suspicious.  This neighbour could also cut your grass and collect advertising flyers that may accumulate on your doorstep.  He/she could turn on some lights in the evening and move your car from time to time.  The idea is to make it look like the house is occupied while you are away. Finally, before you leave, call Public Security.  Patrollers will pass by your home occasionally to make sure everything is in order.  Dial (514) 630-1234.
