Making art and culture accessible to as many people as possible
Since it's inauguration in 1963, the Pointe-Claire Cultural Center, Stewart Hall, has been the focal point of the cultural life of Pointe-Claire and numerous cultural events have taken place there. Since the very beginning, the Centre's purpose has been to offer events of unparalleled quality while encouraging local initiative and implicating all members of the community.
The Centre's Art Gallery offers art exhibits of exceptional quality. The permanent collection, hanging in the various City buildings, includes works by renowned artists.
The Reading and Reference Room (inaugurated in 2004) offers a relaxing and warm atmosphere to students, researchers, and the public where they have access, for reference purposes only, to books and magazines on culture and the arts, recent periodicals and the biggest newspapers of the area. Internet access and photocopy services are also available there. Conferences on the arts, travel, music, and culture take place on a regular basis.
Art Rental and Sales is also part of the Reading and Reference Room, offering for sale or rent an impressive collection of original works of art. The Boutique also sells numerous items hand crafted by local artists and artisans.
The Kid's Corner plays an important role in the Cultural Center's activities. Apart from research books on specific subjects or reading material just for pleasure, the Kid's Corner now offers various activities and exhibitions for young people.
