EpiPen Provider
  • Pre-requisite: A CPR certification with AED (automated external defibrillator) exposure taken within the past 2 years - Proof is required
  • Certification from the Heart and Stroke Foundation of Quebec
  • 3-4 hour course
  • 3-year certification
  • Target population: Parents, teachers, daycare employees, lifeguards, corporate and community groups, etc.
     

Course content:

  • Understand the causes and mechanisms of anaphylaxis
  • Recognize the signs and symptoms of an anaphylactic reaction
  • Know the protocols for epinephrine administration
  • Know the actions to take and the secondary effects of epinephrine
  • Choose the right dose according to weight
  • Know how to use an auto-injector

This course was designed with the intent of teaching individuals how to recognize an anaphylactic reaction in someone who is NOT KNOWN as allergic.

Auto-injectors can now be bought by schools, day camps, daycares, etc. without a prescription. According to the law, they may only be used by those who have followed this course.
