- Pre-requisite: A CPR certification with AED (automated external defibrillator) exposure taken within the past 2 years - Proof is required
- Certification from the Heart and Stroke Foundation of Quebec
- 3-4 hour course
- 3-year certification
- Target population: Parents, teachers, daycare employees, lifeguards, corporate and community groups, etc.
Course content:
- Understand the causes and mechanisms of anaphylaxis
- Recognize the signs and symptoms of an anaphylactic reaction
- Know the protocols for epinephrine administration
- Know the actions to take and the secondary effects of epinephrine
- Choose the right dose according to weight
- Know how to use an auto-injector
This course was designed with the intent of teaching individuals how to recognize an anaphylactic reaction in someone who is NOT KNOWN as allergic.
Auto-injectors can now be bought by schools, day camps, daycares, etc. without a prescription. According to the law, they may only be used by those who have followed this course.
