KIDS' CORNER: READING & REFERENCE ROOM


KID'S CORNER
Bring your kids to the "Kids' Corner" and discover all the reading material available on topics as varied as dance, visual arts, music, puppets, and science. You can take some time to play with your child. We carry a nice selection of games on music, colors, animals and poetry...In the "Kids' Corner", kids find a special exhibition space, conceived especially for them.

Les Marionnettes du bout du monde.  Story time and workshop in French for 4 to 8 year olds. Who doesn’t know Bobinette, Quebec’s celebrity hand-puppet!  Thanks to a simple method full of creativity, children will be able to make their own sturdy puppet that will last them a long time!  At the end of the workshop, children will learn how to bring to life their own little creation. Passes required

Exhibition for Youth. A photographic project where with the help of cameras made from recycled materials young Nicaraguan workers share with us their daily realities. A project produced by Patrick Dionne and Miki Gingras, founders of DIASOL.  Free admission

BISMARK VILLACRÉS
Exhibition for Youth. An exhibition of large size sculptures of portraits taken from people belonging to different cultural backgrounds: Haitians, Amerindians, Chinese… This fun and hands-on exhibition will allow you to get close to these oversized sculptures and to explore them through touch. The sculptures create a harmony amongst one another without borders. Original pieces by sculptor Bismark Villacrés.  Free admission

Sculpture workshop in French for children 6 to 12 years. Workshop that explores the Faces exhibition. Discover the creation process of a three-dimensional face made of clay and the various possibilities involved with this type of sculpting.  Creative expression of each child will be encouraged. Pyjama story time with Patti Warnock in English for 4 to 9 year olds. Stories about magic, stories about princesses, and stories about friends! Stories from across the street, stories from across the seas, but always stories from under the moon! Put on your pyjama and bring your teddy bear!  Passes required

PICTURE A STORY!
SUSAN MITCHELL
Exhibition for Youth.  Discover the fascinating world of children’s book illustration, a whimsical world of rosy cheeked babies, fuzzy bunnies, and flying unicorns!
Susan Mitchell is a Montreal-based children’s illustrator who has currently published sixteen books. Discover many of her original paintings from such titles as Claire and the Unicorn, Pumpkin Baby, and Too Many Fairies. Accompanying the final artwork are rough sketches and drawings that demonstrate Susan’s illustration process.
In addition to children’s books, this exhibition showcases many other works including greeting card and magazine illustrations, a series of fifteen minute drawings, and handmade soft toys inspired by Susan’s art. Join us in the wonder of picturing a story!  Free admission

BRINGING STORIES TO LIFE!
SUSAN MITCHELL
Story time and workshop in English for 6 to 10 year olds. Bring an author’s story to life and help illustrator Susan Mitchell create new characters!  The illustration process is exciting: from first being given a story, to making rough sketches of the characters and scenes, to painting the finished picture book, children are taken through all the various steps.  The presentation ends with a nice story time chosen from one of Susan Mitchell’s published books.  Passes required
